James Knight’s “History of Jamaica” has been a relatively underused source, mainly because it is only accessible in manuscript form in the British Library and through a paywalled digital archive. This project aims to transcribe Knight’s volumes on Jamaica to promote use of the text in histories of eighteenth century Jamaica. The project is ongoing, and the transcription will be continually updated and added to.

The transcription is accompanied by various blog posts and links to more information. It is hoped this work will provide further enlightenment on early eighteenth century Jamaica, specifically research related to the lives of enslaved people and white attitudes towards them.
