

Jamie Gemmell

Jamie Gemmell is a History PhD Research Student at KCL and Graduate (MA, MScR) from the University of Edinburgh. He researches race, coloniality, and power in the early modern Anglo-Atlantic World, with a specific focus on Jamaica and London. He has published with Retrospect Journal, the Northern Early Modern Network Blog, and the Scottish Centre for Global History Podcast. He is Assistant Editor for the University of Maryland's Slavery, Law, and Power Project. He is former Editor-in-Chief of Retrospect Journal.

Prof. Diana Paton

Diana Paton is William Robertson Professor of History at the University of Edinburgh. She is a historian of the Caribbean in global context. She is the author of No Bond but the Law: Punishment, Race and Gender in Jamaican State Formation, 1780-1870 (Duke University Press, 2004) and The Cultural Politics of Obeah: Religion, Colonialism and Modernity in the Caribbean World (Cambridge University Press, 2015). Alongside Professor Matthew Smith (Professor of History at UCL), she has co-edited The Jamaica Reader: History, Culture, Politics (Duke University Press, 2021).
